The Center for Creative Aging at Harold Washington College |
A Letter From The President |
|
| Dear Friends, |
| As you may have noticed, the demographic profile of the Chicago loop is rapidly changing, especially in
regard to age. The increasing number of individuals age 50 and older who live and work in the loop and nearby neighborhoods
are keeping pace with the steady rise in newly constructed residential buildings in downtown Chicago and the national
graying of the workforce.
|
| The Chicago Department of Aging, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, and the City's many public
and private educational, cultural, spiritual, medical, wellness, recreational, and business institutions are acutely aware
of these changing demographics and are responding in ways appropriate to their specific missions, clienteles, and locations.
Yet in spite of the rich and varied array of programs and services already being offered, there still are opportunities to
further enrich the lives of "Boomers" and other active older adults in downtown Chicago and to ensure that their presence
optimally benefits the community.
|
| We believe that HWC has a responsibility to join other institutions and organizations seeking to identify
the specific interests, assets, and needs of these populations and address them by providing programs of interest that will
support healthy and meaningful lives after 50. Accordingly, in 2007 we established The Center for Creative Aging at
Harold Washington College. The Center offers affordable programs for older mid-life Chicagoans in the areas of personal
development and life transitions, physical fitness, holistic health, education and training for paid and volunteer
employment, opportunities for service to the community, professional development in the field of aging, and a variety of
social services.
|
| We invite you to participate in the exciting programs and activities of the dynamic Center. |
| Most sincerely, |
| John R. Wozniak, |
| President, Harold Washington College |
