Goals Statement |

The immediate goals of the Center are:
- To become an active, productive partner with the Chicago Department of Aging, the Chicago
Department of Cultural Affairs, and with other organizations and institutions also committed
to providing Chicagoans fifty and older with instruction, activities, and connections that:
- encourage self-knowledge and personal growth
- assist identification and development of untapped gifts
- broaden interests and increase knowledge

provide training and access to opportunities for meaningful paid and volunteer work and
for service to the community

In collaboration with the Harold Washington College (HWC) Department of Applied Sciences'
program in Gerontology, to offer transfer credit, continuing education credit, and non-credit
programs to Center members, students of HWC and other Chicago colleges, and to the interested
public. All programs will be focused on a multi-cultural, humanistic approach to the study of
aging and are based on the principle that the second half of life has important meaning for the
individual and the community.

To host an annual spring lecture series or conference on topics of particular interest to the
populations to be served by the HWC Center for Creative Aging and the Gerontology Program using
Harold Washington College faculty and local and nationally known speakers.
